SOWS is about rescue, rehabilitation, and education.
Welcome to the South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter Website
The South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter voluntary, non-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and releases native wildlife within Victoria's south-eastern suburbs.

It is the largest shelter in the Melbourne Metropolitan area. We travel hundreds of kilometres weekly rescuing injured and orphaned wildlife such as flying foxes, possums, lizards, bird species such as magpies and lorikeets and many more.

Our shelter also assists schools with educating students about wildlife and what individuals can do if they find injured wildlife. We believe that educating the community about the importance of living in harmony with Australia's flora and fauna is one of the most important things we can do to help our native wildlife flourish.

The founder, Michele, was awarded with the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2019 for her efforts in wildlife conservation and care. She has also been nominated for the 2018 Pride of Australia Award.

If you would like to become a member of our association, please complete our membership application form.
Australia has some of the most unique wildlife in the world - let's do our job and protect it.
